A HEARTWARMING MANDELA DAY AT MALIKA ORPHANAGE CENTRE

During my WIL at Focus1 Student Accommodation as a PR intern, I was fortunate to take part in a really remarkable Mandela Day celebration. This year, we decided to spend our sixty-seven minutes cheering up and donating several items for the amazing children who live at the Malika Orphanage Center.

The caretaker welcomed us with warm hands immediately when we arrived. It was a day full of engaging activities and deep interactions, all sparked by the children's eagerness and grins.

We started our activities with the kids by singing and dancing. A joyful environment was created by the sound of music and laughing filling the air. It was amazing to witness how a seemingly insignificant activity like dancing could make them look so happy.

Apart from the enjoyable events, we also gave away other items that we had contributed. We gave out clothing, beds, fruits and snacks, and other necessities to make sure the kids had some basics covered. We were very moved by the gratitude in their eyes, which served as a reminder of the value of giving back.

To capture the essence of our visit, we took numerous pictures, documenting how our 67 minutes were spent. These photos not only serve as evidence of our activities but also as cherished memories of the day.

The individual sessions we had with the children proved to be among the most influential aspects of our stay. By getting to know them better and learning about their goals and objectives, these interactions helped us establish a genuine connection. We were all profoundly affected by the humble experience.

Mandela Day at the Malika Orphanage Center served as an important reminder of the strength of community and compassion. The children's laughs and grins, as well as our newfound feeling of purpose to help and encourage others in need, accompanied us as we departed.

This Mandela Day served as a testament to Focus1 Student Accommodation's dedication to having a good influence. We anticipate having many more chances to give back and influence positive changes in our community.

    1. In our current digital age, the most impactful way to celebrate Mandela Day is by leveraging social media and online platforms to spread awareness and inspire collective action. By sharing stories of Mandela's legacy, promoting educational content on social justice, and encouraging virtual volunteering or crowdfunding initiatives, we can reach a global audience and mobilize people to contribute to causes that embody Mandela's values. This digital approach allows individuals worldwide to participate in meaningful ways, fostering a sense of global community and solidarity in the pursuit of equality and human rights.
